Under an abundance of caution concerning the timing of the forecasted winter weather, Grandview will have an AMI day tomorrow, January 12, 2024. Packets of assignments have been sent home with students. AMI Day 1 assignments will be collected for a grade when students return. If students do not turn in the assigned material they are required to be counted as absent with no grade.

The school calendar approved in March erroneously marked March 25, 2024, with an X, indicating it would be a day when school would not be in session. Hours for that day were included in the total amount turned in to DESE for the school year. The loss of those hours would cause us to go below the minimum required by DESE guidelines. Therefore, during last night's meeting, the Grandview R-II School Board approved a measure to amend the 2023-2024 school year. Monday, March 25, 2024, will now be a day of school attendance. This error was just recently noticed, and we wanted to get it corrected early. The amended calendar can be found by following this link: https://5il.co/27hsz or on the District website.

Attention: This afternoon the fire alarm system was triggered in the high school. Students and staff were evacuated following safety procedures and the fire department was automatically alerted and were on the scene. After an investigation, it was found that there was not an actual fire and the students and staff were in no imminent danger. The alert system was triggered from a fault in the alarm system. The fault in the alarm system is being addressed so this event is not repeated. The administration commends the students and staff for their professionalism during the event today and appreciates the prompt and efficient action of our rescue services.

4-Day Week Update: Senate Bill 4 was approved out of committee WITHOUT the amendment related to the 4-day school week. I have also been told that we should not consider this a permanent “win” for the 4-day week as a local control option. I’ve heard that this same amendment (that includes the 4-day week) could very well appear again on later bills----so, please do not let this change your efforts to advocate for your position on the 4-day week, whatever it may be. Of course, new amendments could pop up or be added to future bills. Thank you everyone for your efforts, I will try to keep you updated, Matt Zoph
