On May 10th, we will be having a Saucy's Day, where 10% of all sales that mention Grandview Middle School will benefit the students in our building. We use these funds for incentives and field trips for our students. Enjoy some pizza the day before the entire building begins MAP Testing!!!

The Middle School will be holding a Paint with Parents fundraiser on May 10th. Parents will be able to create an original piece of art with their child and help raise funds for the middle school all at the same time. The cost for each piece of produced artwork and painting experience will be $20. Families can bring money to the office for the event and label it Paint with Parents Night. Mrs. Luthenauer, one of our art teachers, will be leading the painting experience that night from 5:30-7:30 PM. Please fill out the form below to reserve your spot for the event. This is for parents and students of all grade levels throughout the district. https://bit.ly/GrandviewPaintNight2022

Our Tyler SIS massing messaging component is still not working. Today, we gave students paper copies of their 3rd quarter report cards. They were instructed to give them to their parent/guardian tonight when they get home. We apologize for the delay in getting them to you. We sent them out using the normal e-blast last Tuesday, but the glitch with SIS is causing communications.

Due to the icy conditions from this afternoon, we will be having an AMI Day tomorrow. Teachers will be contacting you to share the assignment. Students were also given a physical copy of AMI assignment #4 this week. These assignments are items that were covered previously in the year, so we can check for the long term comprehension of material. These assignments will be collected when we return to school and be taken for points. Please make sure that your child completes the assignment so that his or her grade will be in the best position possible for the 3rd quarter. Teachers will be accessible to assist your child with these assignments. Please have your child email his or her teacher if they have a question about the assignment. The teachers have many students on their class rosters, so please be patient when you send them a question. They will get to your question in a timely fashion. Teachers will be available to answer questions from 7:30 AM-3:17 PM tomorrow. If you have any questions, please email me at jeffriesd@grandviewr2.org. Please be safe if you and your family need to travel tomorrow. Don Jeffries Grandview Middle School Principal Go Eagles!!!

I hope you have been able to be safe during the winter storm that came through the area this week that did not allow us to have school in-session. We had three AMI days to conclude the week. Students were given paper copies of the assignments in their classes that should be turned in when they return to school on Tuesday. Over the past two years, we have had assignments posted on the Planner Check on the Middle School webpage. The most recent week is posted at the top of the webpage. Teachers have posted links to the AMI activities in their classes on this communication tool. You can use this to see what needs to be completed by Tuesday. These assignments will be among the first grades to be recorded in the 3rd quarter and should allow students to get off to a good start in the 2nd semester. I have placed a link to the Planner Check below: https://www.grandviewr2.com/o/gms/page/2021-22-planner-checks If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at jeffriesd@grandviewr2.org. I look forward to seeing your children on Tuesday. Don Jeffries Grandview Middle School Principal Go Eagles!!!

Please see the following news from our Nursing Staff: I wanted to reach out to everyone and explain Hazel Health. Hazel health is a partnership that the nursing department uses. It's a very convenient way that our students can see a Doctor in the nurse office or at home through a device. Any student that is a Grandview student can use this service. To be able to see students a consent form needs to be filled out. The consent link and/or QR code is at the top of the flier. I was informed this morning that Hazel Health will continue seeing our students at no cost. Hazel visits are simple, secure, and convenient, and each in-school visit saves an average of 3 hours of instructional time. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to reach out to your building nurse. Thank you so much for your time. AMI Day Next Tuesday--You should have received an email or all-call on Friday announcing that we will not be conducting classes in the building on Tuesday with it being Election Day. We will be instead having our first AMI Day of the year. What is an AMI Day? It means Alternative Method of Instruction, which is a new learning opportunity for our teachers and students on days that school is not in session. The state of Missouri allows school districts to utilize five of these days during the school year. With the middle school being a polling place for this Presidential Election, the district is going to use its first AMI day on November 3rd. Here is how it will work: --Students will be given an assignment in each of their classes on Friday that is a review of previously covered material. We want to make sure that our students maintain long-term retention of the items we cover in class, and these days will allow that to occur. Students have the chromebook as a resource in class each day whether it is material using the PEAK system or some other instruction tool. Access to a computer or reliable internet service cannot be guaranteed for all students, so that is why each student will be given a paper copy of the assignment on Friday. These hurdles are also why the teachers will review material the students have already received the instruction. We want to make sure that all students have the opportunity to be successful on these AMI Days. --Teachers will send an email to parents and students on Tuesday morning to remind them of the AMI learning activity and also give them an electronic copy of the assignment. Teachers will also be available via email to answer questions that students may have throughout the course of the school day from 7:35 AM-3:17 PM. Teachers may be getting numerous emails, so please tell your student to be patient while waiting for a response. Your student can skip the item they are having difficulty with and come back to it later in the day once they receive a response. --Students should make sure to complete the assignments that are part of their AMI activity as there will be points taken for these AMI activities on the next day that we have class. In next week's case, students will turn in the activity on Wednesday. --As the school year progresses, we will have up to four more of these AMI Days. When the long-range forecast has inclement weather, we will send AMI activities home with the student in anticipation of potential AMI Days due to snow or other forms of inclement weather where the roads make it dangerous for traveling. If you have any questions about the upcoming AMI Day, please feel free to contact Mr. Jeffries via email at jeffriesd@grandviewr2.org or call the office at 636-944-3390 ext. 3.
